During these tight economical times does it make sense to become an owner of a sleep lab? Well I guess I think it does because that is exactly what we have done. My wife Candace and I are now co-owners of such a lab.
We see this as an opportunity to merge the resources of Priority Health Education and such a facility as a means of providing the best in sleep education and patient care. A means of developing new talent into the sleep field under the supervision of experienced techs and physicians.
This new relationship is the first of several new Priority Health Education Centers opening this year. These Centers will be the training grounds for dozens of emerging CPSGTs and RPSGTs of the near future.
Classes such as Board Reviews, Scoring, PAP, and Emerging Technologies will be provided on alternating months. Center and visiting staff will include experts in our fireld including Technologists and Physicians alike.
So is it the smart thing to do now in these economic times? I dont know. I do know that it is the right thing to do. Onsight Training Facilities (OTF) are difficult to come by these days for those entering our field. These OTF's will be places where new ASTEP graduates can come and work as interns/externs and be paid a salary while they continue to grow and learn in sleep. I feel this is worth the risk and the cost.
